  • Power / Boiler Plant Operator in Energy Operations – Chemical Industry (all genders)

    €50,000 - €60,000
    Cologne
    permanent position
    Full-Time | 5-Shift Model

    Invisible but indispensable

Our carbon black is not immediately visible, yet it is found almost everywhere—in tires that get you safely to your destination, in the smartphone you hold in your hand every day, in the paint that brings your home to life, and in batteries that supply energy. Without it, modern life would come to a standstill.

But what you will see right away is that we invest in you. In your development, your prospects, and your future. We provide you with the framework you need to grow—professionally, personally, and financially. Your commitment makes a difference to us, and in return you receive more than just appreciation: you receive genuine recognition.

Production – the heart of our plant – never stops. It runs 365 days a year, manufacturing a wide range of carbon blacks. The Power Plant and Energy Supply department is a key part of our production. Here, you ensure that our steam boiler and turbine systems, as well as media supply, operate smoothly and efficiently. The residual gas generated in our production is used in our energy operations to produce electricity and district heating, which is supplied to numerous households in the surrounding area.

Before we go into detail: the basics.

    37.5 hours/week | Full-continuous 5-shift model (Shift times: 6:00–1:00 pm, 1:00–9:00 pm, 9:00 pm–6:00 am) | permanent position | Cologne | 31 vacation days | Salary range: €50,000 – €60,000 (according to chemical industry tariff)

The job that fits your ambitions

    • At the control station, you monitor areas such as boiler and turbine systems and continuously analyze technical processes to ensure smooth and efficient operations. This also includes regular inspections and monitoring of systems like the residual gas system or cooling towers
    • You are responsible for safely switching, activating, and isolating systems, ensuring their functionality. Through regular maintenance and servicing, you actively contribute to continuous improvement and maximizing system uptime
    • In the furnace black area, you take on or support reactor servicing, carry out maintenance work, and ensure systems are always operational to prevent unexpected failures
    • You work independently, identify optimization potential, and actively contribute to increasing efficiency and ensuring safety in the power plant and energy supply. Your expertise in water treatment, limit values, and safety regulations is crucial for the stability and performance of the systems

What you bring to the table

    • A successful foundation for this role is a completed vocational training as a power plant operator, boiler attendant, or a comparable technical trade (e.g., metalworking, electrical work, chemical technician, process mechanic), ideally with experience in industry – preferably in energy supply or disposal. (all genders welcome)
    • You are open to regular further training and willing to learn new areas of work
    • For this role, you will be trained in our plant fire brigade and must first pass the G26.3 fitness examination. During drills and operations, you will wear full respiratory protection
    • You appreciate variety in your workplace: It can be hard to access, sometimes high up, sometimes loud, indoors or outdoors, wet or dry, hot or cold – but above all: highly exciting, increasingly sustainable, and designed for the long term
    • Communication and teamwork are primarily conducted in German
